Details

If your shopping around for live rock them I'm sure you've heard it all about how this is better rock then this and how one site has the best. Blah, Blah. We've heard it all from Premium, Ultra, Primo, Top Shelf, Cherry Picked and more. The truth is 90% of those companies all get there rock from the same overseas distributors. It's shipped allover the place, dies, then they try to make it look good put putting it in large holding tanks. Here's where this rock differs, this is live rock made in the USA by good ole mother nature! This live rock sells for $16-23 per lb in the pet stores as showpiece center rocks. This rock has extensive amount of coral and plant growth, over 20 years worth of growth.

All images show here were sent to us by our customers. Below is an example of the type of rock you'll get, booming with colors, corals, plants, clams, etc.

This rock is hand harvested about 3 miles off the Florida cost. That means someone (a reefer) actually goes diving in the ocean and hand selects this rock for sale. Our Live Rock is covered in tons of beautiful corals (SPS, LPS, polyps, etc), ton's of different color, coralline algae, sea urchins, spiny oysters, thorny jewel boxes, feather dusters, crabs, clams, mussels and many other tropical reef dwellers found in the Atlantic Ocean.

SHIPPING IS NOT INCLUDED IN THIS PRICE! We will contact you after your purchase with the best overnight shipping method and date, usually air cargo to the closest major airport will be the cheapest and fastest. We only ship overnight because of the amount of live corals and plant life on this live rock. We want your alive rock to stay that way. Ships in very little water and is wrapped in wet paper towels to preserve life. Air Cargo is usually around $97 for 0-40 pounds to any major US Airport. Fedex priority overnight to your doorstep is a bit more expensive based on weight.

FedEx Calculator - https://www.fedex.com/ratefinder/home

Instructions: Enter "33601" as the FROM zipcode, then enter your zipcode in the TO box. Next enter the number of packages and weight of your planned order. (40 lbs per package) Next check mark "ship to a residence" and select "schedule a pickup" from the pickup/dropoff box. Then click on the button "QUICK QUOTE". Look at the rate for "FedEx Priority Overnight", that's your shipping cost.

Curing:

The term, "cure" really only applies to Live Rock imported from the Indo-Pacific such as Fiji rock, Tonga rock, etc... (I.E. Shipped all over the world in the dark.) This rock was made in the USA and ships from the USA. There's no need for curing. We do however have customers that isolate the rock. This is mainly done to prevent any ammonia increase due to shipping, from harming delicate life forms already in the system. This depends on what type of system you have. For new tanks always put the rock directly into the tank when it is received. For some established tanks you may consider isolation for potential ammonia spikes of 0.025 for 72 hours. Don't cure this rock, you'll kill it. :) A good protein skimmer and a water change is all that is usually needed to remedy any ammonia spikes.

What should I expect?

Live Rock is Live Rock here. If it is not a great rock, the it is base rock. Very Easy. We wouldn't sell you something we wouldn't buy ourselves. Expect a standard mix of different sizes ranging from very large (20-80lbs) to small (1-5 lbs).

Hitch-hikers and Organisms

Two of these lifeforms have a bad rep, Bristle worms and mantis shrimp. These can also be expected with this rock. We love bristleworms for most reefs, they eat fish poo, hang out in the sand all day, nothing bad about that. Mantis on the other hand should be removed in most setups.

Removing Hitch-hikers

Some customers use this method to help neutralize the hitch hikers, it's your preference really. Fill a bucket with a saltwater mix of 40 ppt salinity or a specific gravity of about 1.030. Insert a rock. Wait no longer than 10 minutes and the bucket will be full of stuff. (USE A WHITE BUCKET) You can then pick through what you want to keep. If you keep the rock in there too long you will start to kill stuff. You will be amazed at what is in there. Keep in mind this will not remove everything. Live rock is exactly that, ALIVE!

Shipping Livestock To Hawaii

In order for us to ship to Hawaii, the customer must obtain a permit from the Hawaii State Department of Agriculture. The permit application form can be found online at this URL: http://hawaii.gov/hdoa/pi/pq/pq-7.pdf. Be sure to first check the list of fishes approved for import to Hawaii. You can find that list here: http://hawaii.gov/hdoa/admin-rules/subtitle-6-division-of-plant-industry/AR-71C.pdf.

There are two types of permits. The first is a one shipment permit, and, as the name implies, is limited to one shipment (although it is fine to have multiple fish in the shipment). If the applicant would like to import fishes one time, he or she must specify the fishes' names, the number of fishes being imported, and the shipper on the permit application. There is a $5 recording fee for the one shipment permit.

The second type of permit is for multiple shipments. This means that the applicant may be able to import multiple shipments from multiple U.S. addresses. The permit is valid for one year, and if the applicant thinks he or she will be importing multiple shipments, this is definitely the way to go. With the multiple shipment permit, the applicant does not need to specify the fishes names, quantity, and shipper on the permit application. There is $50 recording fee for the multiple shipment permit.

The applicant should plan on approximately 10 business days for either permit to be approved. Permits should be submitted via postal mail or in person to the following address:

State of Hawaii
Department of Agriculture
Plant Quarantine Branch
1849 Auiki Street, Honolulu, HI 96819-3100
PH:808 832-0566 FAX:808 832-0584

If the applicant has any questions, he or she can call the State of Hawaii Department of Agriculture at 808 832-0566. Once the permit is approved the applicant will receive a packet in the mail containing the permit and a list of approved animals.
