SHIPPING DELAYS! - Please allow an extra 1-2 days for your order to ship and a few extra days for delivery due to all 3 of the Major Carriers (US Postal Service, UPS, Fedex) being crushed with COVID + Weather + Heavy Online Shopping Volume this time of year.  If you need an order by a certain date please choose and pay for UPS or FedEx Expedited Services and we will do our best to get it do you.  If you choose FREE SHIPPING there is a chance you will not receive it by the date stated.

USPS Priority & First Class Delays - For any orders shipped via the USPS Postal Service, please allow 10 business days after the last tracking update before contacting us about a lost package.  We are seeing unprecedented delays with the postal service this year.  We are seeing bins of orders often sitting for 5-7 days at a time at USPS sorting centers before the tracking is scanned at sorting centers.  If we send you a tracking number, your order has left our facilities. We do not print labels and let orders sit.  If you have a tracking number it's on it's way to you, likely sitting at a US postal facility.

Are We Still Shipping?

The vast majority of orders are still shipping same day by 1:00PM EST as Normal.  FAST & FREE.  Some orders may take 24-48 hours of placing an order (M-F). 

As the number of questions about our operational status mount, we feel now is a good time to calm the fears of our customer base.  We are deemed an essential business by the state of PA as our business is important to the life support of our pets.  We are classified by the State of PA as a Non Store Retail, Electronic Shopping and Mail Order house.  Imagine that, they consider us mail order :)  We are operational and will continue to ship orders as long as the shipping lanes of UPS, Fedex & USPS continue to operate.

With the COVID-19 global pandemic continuing to evolve, we felt it was important to share a brief summary of the Business Continuity Program being implemented at In addition to the safety and well being of our employees, our top priority is to ensure that we continue to provide exceptional, uninterrupted service to you, our customers.  We pride ourselves on fast & free shipping services and will continue to push what's possible in today's environment.  We are still shipping all orders SAME DAY by 1 PM EST.  We are working with our vendor partners to make sure the products you want are in stock, and arrive to you in the fastest, safest means possible.

What is Saltwater doing for our Customers?

Your safety is important to us especially at this time of global stress. Our goal is to ensure that you are protected and at the same time for you to be able to receive your orders in a timely manner.  We are taking every precaution in the warehouse and shipping including, quarantining of new freight deliveries, frequent sanitation of surfaces, carts, shelves, tape guns, door handles, all surfaces.  Staff limits and social distancing are also in effect.

DELAYS & What are our Carriers Doing?

USPS seems to be having the hardest time handling the volume of packages.  Please allow up to 10 business days after the last tracking update with no movement before contacting us about a lost package.  If you need your order faster, please select UPS or Fedex at checkout.  For some USPS First Class packages after our Labor Day Sale, it took 7 Business Days after the USPS had the package to see the first official received scan.  This is not the norm but can happen during times of heavy volume.

Paid Shipping - FedEx & UPS no longer offer shipping time frame guarantees due to COVID19.  If you pay for a shipping service we will do everything in our power to ship and meet those shipping expectations.  Shipping delays however should be anticipated and are out of our control.  Refunds for paid shipping will not be given in the event that UPS or Fedex have shipping delays out of our control.

Additional efforts are being done by the carriers handling our deliveries. Note that the precautionary measures carriers are doing is not limited to the list below.

  • Closely monitoring COVID-19 updates from the World Health Organization (WHO), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the like.
  • Increased disinfecting practices in all warehouses or common spaces.
  • Employees who have jobs that are non-essential to daily warehouse/freight operations now working from home to limit contact.
  • Cancelled employee business travel and visits from any external representatives.
  • Postponing deliveries to locations with high concentration of COVID-19 cases or locations confirmed locked down.
  • Monitoring the health of the active delivery personnel.

The Average Transit Time for our Free Shipping program is 2.3 days.  Order from us, trust us to get your stuff FAST & FREE.  All Orders placed before 1 PM EST ship Same Day.  Meaning your tracking will actually work the same day as your order.  We don't just print labels and let orders sit like some of our competitors.  If you want your stuff fast and hate paying for shipping, shop with us!

Our standard shipping policy is FREE SHIPPING ON ALL ORDERS, NO MINIMUM ORDER.  We also over a number of Paid Upgrades, UPS, Fedex, 2 Day, Next Day, Priority Overnight, as much as possible.

Multiple Warehouses

We ship different items from multiple warehouses all over the US.  We have central hubs in PA, AZ with other partner shipping centers in CO, IL, FL, etc.  Depending on what you order your order may be split into multiple shipments.

Free Shipping - No Minimum Order

Get FREE shipping on everything you need.  No minimum order.  We ship everything Free or Paid Upgrade.  Our standard service takes 1-10 days using a mix of USPS, Surepost, UPS, Fedex.

Same Day Shipping

We try to ship same day, Orders placed by 1:00 PM EST will usually ship out the same day you ordered Monday–Friday, excluding holidays.  Your tracking will actually work on the same day you order.

Details about Our Shipping Options

If you choose to pay for a shipping service, USPS, Fedex or UPS we will include the Saturday Delivery Option at no charge to you.  (Example: Order on Thursday before 1pm EST, pay for 2 Day service, your package will deliver on Saturday, not Monday.)

  • Free 1-10 Day Economy - This option means we will ship with the cheapest possible option.  Often UPS Surepost, Fedex Smart Post, USPS Ground/Priority or UPS Ground depending on what you order.  If your order is on the high end we will often upgrade it to UPS Ground.
  • Fast Flat Rate (No Surepost) - This upgrade option means 90% of the orders will be delivered within 1-3 days via UPS Ground, Fedex Ground or USPS Priority. 
  • USPS Options - You have the ability to choose USPS First Class, USPS Priority or USPS Express at checkout.  First Class is available for any orders under 1 lbs and is your regular mail service.  USPS Priority is a 2-3 day service via the USPS regular mail but there are often delays and lost packages.  USPS Express is the postal services attempt at overnight service, it's fast but often with delays.
  • Fedex - You can purchase Fedex Ground, 2 Day or Overnight service for your orders.  Ground/Home is fedex's normal delivery service which delivers Tuesday-Saturday.  Monday is a delivery date only for commercial addresses.  2 Day is 2 Business Days Air including Saturday, Overnight is Next Day including Saturday.
  • UPS - There are lots of UPS options you can pay for.  All of these include Saturday Delivery outside of UPS Ground.  UPS Ground is our standard shipping service and is probably the most reliable around.  3 Day Select is guaranteed in 3 days including Saturday, 2 Day is 2 Business Days Air including Saturday, Overnight is Next Day including Saturday. (If your address rural as assigned by UPS Saturday delivery may not be available.)
  • Shipping Live & Refrigerated Goods - We require customers to pay a Flat Rate of $10 for all orders that include Live or Refrigerated goods when the Live goods total less then $40.  We use UPS 2 Day or Next Day Air on all Live & Refrigerated goods.  Once an order reaches the Free Shipping threshold for Live Goods ($40) we will ship the live portion of your order via UPS 2 Day or Next Day Air.  If you have a combined order of Dry & Live Goods but pay for shipping, we will expedite the Live Goods portion of your order, the rest will ship regular ground.

International orders have an actual shipping amount assigned at checkout depending on what is in your cart on All orders.  Free Shipping is for All Orders inside the United States.  If the actual cost is way over the flat rate cost, customer service will contact you to pay the difference.

*Shipping Exceptions

Free Shipping is inside the continuous US.  Oversize or Overweight items (like Aquariums, Chillers, Rock, Sand, Salt etc) incur an additional shipping charge outside the contiguous 48 states.  Also oversize or overweight items do not quality for free 2 day shipping depending on how large the items are, which warehouse they are stocked in and where the shipping address is.  Same Day Shipping is not guaranteed on a select few sale dates, ie Black Friday, Cyber Monday.
