Description

ATI Blue Plus T5 HO Bulb

The ATI Blue Plus is arguably the most popular T5 bulb in the reef aquarium hobby. It is specifically engineered to emphasize the blue spectrum of light, which is critical for both the health of photosynthetic corals and the visual "pop" of their fluorescent colors.

Spectrum & Color Performance

  • Visual Output: An intense, deep blue light that provides high-energy output in the 420nm–460nm range.

  • Spectrum Profile: It combines the properties of a 450nm blue spectrum with a 420nm actinic spectrum. This results in a much higher PAR (Photosynthetically Active Radiation) than traditional actinic bulbs while still providing the fluorescence that makes corals glow.

  • Aesthetic Impact: It deepens the blue look of the aquarium and is highly effective at highlighting the greens, oranges, and reds in various coral species.

Key Features

  • High PAR Output: Unlike many blue-spectrum bulbs that sacrifice power for color, the Blue Plus is known for its high light intensity, making it suitable for even the most light-demanding SPS corals.

  • The "Gold Standard" of Supplementation: It is frequently used as a supplement to LED fixtures or Metal Halide systems to fill in "shading" and provide a more uniform light spread.

  • Stable Phosphors: High-quality German phosphors ensure that the spectrum remains consistent over the life of the bulb, reducing the risk of nuisance algae blooms caused by spectrum shift.

Recommended Use

The Blue Plus is a versatile tool for light mixing. Because of its high PAR, it can be used as a primary light source or as a heavy supplement.

  • For a "Balanced" Look: Mix with ATI Aquablue Special or ATI Coral Plus.

  • For a "Deep Sea" Look: Run a 4-bulb or 6-bulb fixture using primarily Blue Plus bulbs with one ATI Purple Plus to bring out pink and purple pigments.

  • Replacement Schedule: To maintain optimal coral growth and prevent spectrum degradation, it is recommended to replace these bulbs every 9 to 12 months.
