Description
The Heavyweight Champion of Clean-Up Crews is Here!
When it comes to devouring nuisance algae, no snail does it better than the Mexican Turbo Snail (Turbo fluctuosus). Revered by hobbyists for decades, this species is the go-to choice for tackling serious algae outbreaks, especially tough and stringy hair algae that other snails ignore. With its classic mottled gray and tan turban shell, this snail is a natural-looking and incredibly effective addition to any marine aquarium.
Its constant, methodical grazing will leave clean paths on your rockwork and glass, restoring your tank to its pristine, algae-free state. They are peaceful, entirely reef-safe, and work tirelessly from the moment they are introduced.
The XL Advantage: Why choose an XL Mexican Turbo? An extra-large snail makes an immediate and visible impact on your algae outbreak. With a bigger appetite and a wider grazing path, a single XL snail can clear more algae in less time than several smaller snails combined, making it a highly efficient and cost-effective choice for tanks with significant algae growth.
Key Benefits:
- Unrivaled Hair Algae Eater: Considered the single best snail for consuming and eliminating nuisance hair algae.
- Maximum Efficiency: The XL size provides a bigger appetite and faster results for cleaning glass and rockwork.
- 100% Reef Safe: Completely safe with corals, fish, and other invertebrates.
- Natural Algae Control: Reduces the need for chemical treatments and excessive manual scraping.
- Hardy and Active: A resilient and active grazer that gets to work immediately.
!! Important Temperature Consideration !! Mexican Turbo Snails originate from the cooler waters of the Gulf of California. They thrive in temperatures between 72-77°F (22-25°C). While they can tolerate warmer reef tanks for a time, temperatures consistently at or above 78°F (26°C) will significantly shorten their natural lifespan. For the best health and longevity of your snail, we recommend them for fish-only systems or reef tanks with controlled, lower temperature ranges.
Care & Keeping:
- Diet: A voracious herbivore. In an algae-rich tank, it will be self-sufficient. In very clean systems, its diet must be supplemented with dried seaweed (nori) clipped to the rockwork to prevent starvation.
- Compatibility & Behavior: This peaceful giant will not bother any tank mates. Due to its size, it can be a bit clumsy and may knock over unsecured frags. Like all Turbo snails, it cannot right itself if it falls upside down on the sand. A quick flip from you will get it back to work.
- Acclimation: Crucial: A slow drip acclimation over at least one hour is essential. Invertebrates are highly sensitive to changes in water parameters.
For serious algae problems, you need a serious solution. Order your XL Mexican Turbo Snail and watch the algae disappear!
