Description

Tropic Marin Pro-Reef Sea Salt – 200 Gallon Bucket (Germany)

At a Glance

The Gold Standard for Modern Reef Keeping.

Tropic Marin Pro-Reef is the premium, pharmaceutical-grade salt mix engineered specifically for reef aquariums that require ultra-stable alkalinity and elevated calcium levels.2 Unlike standard salts, Pro-Reef is formulated to prevent alkalinity spikes, making it the perfect choice for aquarists using Calcium Reactors, Kalkwasser, or Two-Part dosing systems.

Yield: Mixes approximately 200 Gallons at 1.026 SG.

Grade: Pharmaceutical Purity (99.9% pure ingredients).

Origin: Made in Germany.

Why Pro-Reef?

In "modern" reef keeping, we often run low-nutrient systems (ULNS) and dose calcium/alkalinity heavily to support rapid coral growth. Standard salts with high alkalinity (10+ dKH) can cause dangerous swings during water changes.

Tropic Marin Pro-Reef solves this. It locks alkalinity into the natural 7.0–8.0 dKH range while boosting Calcium and Magnesium.6 This means you can perform massive water changes without shocking your sensitive Acropora or upsetting your dosing stability.

Key Features

  • Pharmaceutical Grade Purity: Manufactured using only the purest raw materials (identical to those used in human medicine), ensuring zero nitrates, phosphates, or synthetic additives.

  • Optimized "Low" Alkalinity: Maintains a specific dKH of 7.0–8.0, preventing the "alkalinity burn" associated with cheaper, high-alk salts.

  • Crystal Clear Mixing: Dissolves rapidly and completely without leaving the dreaded "brown residue" or precipitation in your mixing bin.

  • 70+ Trace Elements: Contains all major and minor trace elements found in natural seawater, mixed into a solid solution crystal to prevents elements from separating during transport.

  • Eco-Conscious: Free from synthetic binders and nitrates.

Technical Specifications & Parameters

Based on a specific gravity of 1.026 (35 ppt) at 77°F.

Parameter Target Range
Alkalinity (dKH) 7.0 – 8.0 dKH
Calcium (Ca) ~ 440 ppm
Magnesium (Mg) ~ 1350 ppm
pH 8.0 – 8.4
Nitrate / Phosphate Undetectable

Who is this salt for?

  • SPS Dominant Reefs: The lower alkalinity prevents tip-burning in low-nutrient environments.

  • Calcium Reactor Users: Since reactors naturally maintain alkalinity, you don't need a salt mix adding extra buffer during water changes.

  • Dosing System Users: If you use the Balling Method or Two-Part, Pro-Reef allows you to rely on your doser for stability rather than your salt bucket.

Mixing Instructions

  1. Prepare Water: Start with the full volume of RO/DI water in your mixing container.12

  2. Add Salt: Slowly pour the salt into the water while a pump circulates the liquid.13 Never add water to a pile of salt, as this creates calcium precipitation.14

  3. Ratio: Use approximately 1/2 cup of salt per gallon of water to reach 1.026 SG.15

  4. Mix: Allow the water to mix until clear.16 Because of its high purity, Pro-Reef is typically ready to use in as little as 30–60 minutes, though mixing for 2-4 hours to oxygenate is ideal.

  5. Test: Always verify salinity with a calibrated refractometer before adding to your tank.

The "Tropic Marin Difference"

Most salt mixes are mined from the earth or evaporated from dirty harbor water. Tropic Marin is scientifically synthesized in Germany using lab-grade ingredients. This is why you will never find black specks, sludge, or inconsistent batches in a Pro-Reef bucket.

Pro Tip: Because this salt does not contain probiotic bacteria (like the Syn-Biotic version), the mixed saltwater can be stored indefinitely. We recommend keeping a full trash can mixed and ready for emergency water changes!
