This aquarium can be used as a saltwater or freshwater tank straight from the crate.  The existing filtration and lighting will work for fish only or soft corals straight out of the box.  If your planning on setting it up as a mixed reef or adding harder to keep corals we would recommend a future upgrade to the lighting and filtration.
