Description
Your #1 Natural Defense Against Aiptasia!
Introduce the hardest working pest remover to your marine aquarium! The Wild Caught Peppermint Shrimp (Lysmata boggessi) is celebrated in the reefing community for one primary reason: its incredible and relentless appetite for the dreaded Aiptasia anemone. If you're fighting a losing battle against these fast-spreading pests, a group of Peppermint Shrimp is the most effective, reef-safe army you can enlist.
Characterized by their translucent bodies and striking red "candy-cane" stripes, these shrimp are as beautiful as they are useful. They are natural scavengers, constantly exploring your tank's rockwork and substrate for their next meal. Their primary target is Aiptasia, but they will also eagerly consume uneaten fish food and other detritus, making them a cornerstone of any effective clean-up crew.
The XL Wild-Caught Advantage:
Not all Peppermint Shrimp are created equal. Our XL specimens are hand-selected for their size and vitality.
- Maximum Effectiveness: Being larger and more established, these XL shrimp can tackle bigger Aiptasia polyps and make a more immediate and noticeable impact in your tank.
- Enhanced Hardiness: Sourced from their natural environment, these shrimp are robust, resilient, and well-acclimated to a diverse reef ecosystem.
- Natural Foragers: Wild-caught shrimp exhibit strong, instinctual foraging behaviors, meaning they get to work faster and more efficiently.
Key Benefits:
- Aiptasia Specialist: The single best natural predator for pest Aiptasia anemones.
- Vital Clean-Up Crew: Actively scavenges for leftover food and detritus, reducing waste and improving water quality.
- 100% Reef Safe: Completely safe with corals, fish, and other invertebrates.
- Peaceful & Social: A calm and non-aggressive species that does well in groups.
- Engaging to Watch: Their active and social nature adds life and movement to your aquarium.
Care & Keeping:
- Tank Requirements: A minimum of a 10-gallon tank is recommended. They thrive in established aquariums with ample live rock, which provides crucial hiding places, especially during molting.
- Diet: Their primary diet should consist of any Aiptasia present in the tank. If no pests are available, they will scavenge for leftovers. Supplement their diet with high-quality pellets, frozen mysis shrimp, and other meaty marine foods to keep them healthy and thriving.
- Compatibility: Peppermint Shrimp are peaceful and can be kept with a wide variety of fish and corals. However, they should not be housed with predatory fish known to eat crustaceans, such as hawkfish, large wrasses, or triggerfish. They are social and are best kept in small groups of three or more for maximum effectiveness.
- Acclimation: Crucial: Like all invertebrates, shrimp are extremely sensitive to changes in water chemistry. A slow drip acclimation over a period of at least one hour is highly recommended for their survival and long-term health.
Don't let Aiptasia ruin your reef. Add these XL Wild Caught Peppermint Shrimp to your cart and reclaim your tank today!
